When Teejay van Garderen completed the 10.8m climb up to the summit of Mt. Diablo, he forever erased the term “hopeful” from any descriptions that might be used about the BMC stage racer. At that moment van Garderen essentially locked up the general classification of the 2013 Amgen Tour of California and fulfilled the promise that so many fans of the sport had held out for him since he turned professional in 2008.
“Everything just finally came together,” van Garderen said at the final press conference. “I known for years that I’ve been capable of a ride like this and finally for it to all fall into place, it’s really special.”
Having come close at the US Pro Challenge and other European events, van Garderen’s determination to not let this opportunity slip was clear with each passing stage. And at just 24 years of age, van Garderen’s California victory could hail a new era in American cycling.
From the first to last pedal stroke Tour Tracker once again brought fans unique 21st century insight into the Tour’s 2013 installment.
“I must compliment you all on a truly great app. You provide every detail on the race anyone would ever want; a live video feed, a route profile map that depicts the riders locations on the route, and continuous updates. This is truly the best app for a cycling fan.”
