Winner of five…count ’em five Amgen Tour of California stages in 2012, Peter Sagan (Cannondale) is returning to try and inflict more damage on the pro peloton when this year’s event kicks off on May 12th.

Sagan not only scored the biggest win of his career this season by winning the Flandrian classic of Gent-Wevelgem, he also picked up multiple wins at Tirreno-Adriatico, the Tour of Oman, the Three Days of De Panne. Combine those victories with second place finishes at both Milan-San Remo and the Tour of Flanders, and it’s very likely that the young Slovakian rider will be taking home more trophies from the left coast following his trip to California.

For the first time in it’s history this year’s Amgen Tour of California will travel from South to North – beginning in the city of Escondido and wrapping up in Santa Rosa eight stages later. 2013 sees the addition of two new cities, Greater Palm Springs and Murrieta. Along with Sagan’s Cannondale squad 15 more teams from the professional, professional continental, and continental fields will be tackling the nearly 750-mile course.
